    (This event has already happened.)

Hamburg-based musician Birgit Ulher studied visual arts, which has had an important influence on her improvisational and experimental music. Her work mainly focuses on extending the sounding possibilities of the trumpet by using splitting sounds, multiphonics and granular sounds, and she has developed her own extended techniques and preparations for producing these sounds. Besides this material research, she is especially interested in the relation between sound and silence.

Andreas Trobollowitsch is a Vienna-based electroacoustic musician, composer, and sound artist. He studied musicology and jazz in Vienna and Paris. In his works, he uses mainly prepared musical instruments, modified fans, tapes and field recordings. Recently, he has been focusing on sound performances, sound installations, conceptual compositions, and drawing installations.

Here Ulher and Trobollowitsch play together for the first time here, offering solo and duo sets with Trobollowitsch on acoustic guitar and fan, and Ulher on trumpet, radio, and found objects.

The concert is co-presented with the Goethe Institut alongside Traces, a site-specific sound installation by Birgit Ulher that celebrates the 20th anniversary of sister cities Chicago and Hamburg, September 17-20, 2014. Supported by Bundeskanzleramt Österreich.
