For more than five decades, Antoni Miralda has used food and its ceremonies to examine how cultures are made, mixed, and consumed. Moving between sculpture, installation, performance, and collective participation, his work turns the familiar rituals of eating into something altogether stranger. A meal can become a monument, a recipe a history lesson, and a wedding between the Statue of Liberty and Barcelona’s Columbus Monument an unlikely portrait of the traffic between the Old and New Worlds. Bringing together works from across Miralda’s expansive practice but focusing specifically on the experiment-cum-restaurant he started with his partner Montse Gillen in the 80’s, the exhibition considers the table as a place where the personal and political intertwine.
