This exhibition is a mid-career retrospective of influential Chicago Imagist, Barbara Rossi. Rossi first began exhibiting in 1969 when the Chicago Imagists were on the verge of national and international recognition. Rossi’s meticulously rendered drawings and cartoonish paintings played an integral part in those seminal exhibitions. While many of the founding Imagists have faded from the public eye, the continued excellence of artists such as Rossi has ensured Imagism’s role as the dominant influence on Chicago art in the past two decades, and its significant contribution to contemporary art throughout the country.
